Sure, here’s a simple and delicious recipe for homemade Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts:

Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Doughnuts:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
    • In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
  2. Roll Out the Dough:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
    • Use a doughnut cutter (or two round cutters of different sizes) to cut out the doughnuts and holes.
  3. Heat the Oil:
    • In a large, deep pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil maintains a consistent temperature.
  4. Fry the Doughnuts:
    • Carefully place a few doughnuts at a time into the hot oil. Fry each side for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined tray to drain excess oil.
  5. Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
    • In a shallow bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
    • While the doughnuts are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  6. Serve:
    • Enjoy your cinnamon sugar doughnuts fresh and warm. They are best served immediately but can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two.

Tips:

  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1/2 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Ensure the oil stays at a consistent temperature for evenly cooked doughnuts.
  • You can also bake these doughnuts if you prefer. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Enjoy your homemade Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts!
