Chocolate Flan Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Cake Layer:
- 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
For the Flan Layer:
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Caramel:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a Bundt cake pan generously with non-stick cooking spray.
- Make the Caramel:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden brown (caramel) color.
- Quickly pour the caramel into the prepared Bundt pan, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside.
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil.
- Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
- Pour the cake batter over the caramel in the Bundt pan.
- Prepare the Flan Mixture:
- In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Blend until smooth.
- Carefully pour the flan mixture over the cake batter in the Bundt pan. The flan mixture will sink to the bottom.
- Bake the Cake:
- Cover the Bundt pan with aluminum foil.
- Place the Bundt pan in a large roasting pan. Add about 1 inch of hot water to the roasting pan to create a water bath.
- Carefully place the roasting pan in the oven.
- Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Cool and Unmold:
- Remove the Bundt pan from the water bath and allow the cake to cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate the cake in the pan for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
- To unmold, carefully run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the cake.
- Invert the cake onto a serving plate. The caramel sauce will flow over the cake.
- Serve:
- Slice and serve the Chocolate Flan Cake chilled. Enjoy!
