Chicken Gyro Wraps

Chicken gyro wraps are a delicious and popular dish made with seasoned chicken, fresh vegetables, and tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in warm pita bread. Here’s a basic recipe to make chicken gyro wraps at home:

Ingredients:

For the chicken:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the tzatziki sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, grated and squeezed to remove excess moisture
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For assembling:

  • Pita bread or flatbread
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced red onion
  • Sliced cucumbers
  • Lettuce or spinach leaves

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken and toss until evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Make the tzatziki sauce: In another bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, dill, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Cook the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken slices and cook for about 6-8 minutes, or until cooked through and nicely browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Warm the pita bread: Heat the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until warm and pliable.
  5. Assemble the wraps: Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each warm pita bread. Top with cooked chicken slices, sliced tomatoes, red onion, cucumbers, and lettuce or spinach leaves.
  6. Roll up the wraps: Fold the bottom edge of the pita bread over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll it up tightly.
  7. Serve immediately, with extra tzatziki sauce on the side for dipping if desired.
