Chicken Chow Mein is a popular Chinese dish made with stir-fried noodles, chicken, vegetables, and a savory sauce. Here’s a basic recipe to make Chicken Chow Mein at home:
Ingredients:
- 8 ounces chow mein noodles (or substitute with spaghetti)
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for cooking
Instructions:
- Cook the noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Set aside.
- Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken and stir-fry until it’s cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil if needed. Add minced garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add sliced onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms to the skillet. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Add the cooked noodles, bean sprouts, and the sauce mixture. Toss everything together until the noodles and vegetables are evenly coated with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
- Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
- Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Chicken Chow Mein!
