Cheesy Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Posted on April 2, 2024December 24, 2024 by admin

Cheesy Garlic Scalloped Potatoes is a delightful dish that combines the creaminess of scalloped potatoes with the savory flavors of garlic and cheese. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyere, or a mix)
  • Fresh chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the potatoes: Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly. You can use a mandoline slicer for even slices if you have one.
  3. Make the sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for a minute until fragrant. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously until it forms a paste. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook the sauce until it thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Layer the potatoes: In a greased baking dish, arrange a layer of thinly sliced potatoes. Pour some of the garlic cream sauce over the potatoes, making sure they’re evenly coated. Sprinkle a handful of shredded cheese over the sauce. Repeat the layers until all potatoes, sauce, and cheese are used, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
  5. Bake: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  6. Broil: Remove the foil and switch the oven to broil for the last 5 minutes to brown the cheese on top, if desired. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  7. Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired.
  8. Enjoy!: Serve your cheesy garlic scalloped potatoes as a side dish with your favorite main course.

Feel free to adjust the seasoning, type of cheese, or add other ingredients like onions or herbs to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy your delicious cheesy garlic scalloped potatoes!
