Cheesy Chili Sloppy Joe Sandwich

Posted on February 3, 2025 by admin

Here’s a delicious and cheesy twist on a classic Sloppy Joe with chili! This recipe is perfect for a hearty, comforting meal. Here’s how to make Cheesy Chili Sloppy Joe Sandwiches:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 can (15 oz) chili (with or without beans, depending on preference)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional for extra heat)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or more, depending on your cheesy preference)
  • 4 sandwich buns (soft, preferably brioche)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the meat mixture:
    • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the diced onion and garlic, and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
    • Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet and cook until browned. Break up the meat with a spoon as it cooks.
    • Season with salt, pepper, chili powder, and paprika. Stir to combine.
  2. Add chili and seasonings:
    • Stir in the can of chili, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce.
    • Let the mixture simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. If the mixture gets too thick, you can add a splash of water or beef broth to loosen it up.
  3. Toast the buns:
    • While the meat mixture is simmering, toast your sandwich buns in a separate pan or in the oven. You want them slightly golden and crispy on the edges.
  4. Assemble the sandwiches:
    • Once the chili meat mixture is ready, spoon it generously onto the bottom half of each toasted bun.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the hot meat mixture. The heat will melt the cheese beautifully.
  5. Serve:
    • Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately. You can garnish with some fresh herbs or a slice of pickle on the side if you’d like!
