🧑🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the dough:
-
In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
-
Add the egg and melted butter.
-
Gradually add warm milk, mixing until a soft dough forms.
-
Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5–7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
-
Cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
2. Shape the buñuelos:
-
Divide the dough into 10–12 equal balls.
-
Roll each one out very thin, almost translucent (like a tortilla).
3. Fry:
-
Heat about 1½ inches of oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
-
Fry one buñuelo at a time, flipping once, until golden brown and crispy (about 30 seconds per side).
-
Drain on paper towels.
4. Coat with cinnamon sugar:
-
Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
-
While still warm, sprinkle or press each buñuelo into the cinnamon sugar.
5. Optional syrup:
-
In a saucepan, bring water, piloncillo, cinnamon stick, and cloves to a boil.
-
Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes, until syrup thickens slightly.
-
Stir in vanilla.
-
Drizzle over buñuelos if desired.
