Brown sugar and bacon baked beans are a classic and delicious side dish that pairs well with many meals. Here’s a simple recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 4 cans (15 ounces each) of canned baked beans (you can use your favorite brand)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup diced onions (optional)
- 6-8 slices of bacon
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the canned baked beans (with their liquid), brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, and yellow mustard. Mix these ingredients together until they are well combined. Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your desired level of sweetness.
- If you like, you can sauté the diced onions in a pan with a little oil until they become translucent. This step is optional but adds a nice flavor dimension to the beans. Add the sautéed onions to the bean mixture and stir to combine.
- Pour the bean mixture into a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Lay the bacon slices on top of the bean mixture. You can lay them flat or chop them into smaller pieces and sprinkle them over the top.
- Season the top of the beans with a bit of salt and black pepper to taste.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. The beans should be hot and bubbling, and the bacon should be crispy.
- If you’d like the bacon to be even crispier, you can uncover the beans for the last 10-15 minutes of baking.
- Once the beans are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
