Baked potatoes are a simple and delicious dish that can be served as a side or a main course. Here’s a basic guide to making them:


Basic Baked Potato Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 large russet potatoes (ideal for baking)

  • Olive oil (optional)

  • Coarse salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a towel.

  3. Pierce each potato a few times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.

  4. Optional: Rub the potatoes with a bit of olive oil and sprinkle with coarse salt. This makes the skin crispy and flavorful.

  5. Place potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet (use foil or parchment if you’re concerned about drips).

  6. Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size. To test doneness, insert a knife or skewer—it should slide in easily with no resistance.

  7. Serve hot, sliced open with toppings like:

    • Butter

    • Sour cream

    • Chives or green onions

    • Cheese

    • Bacon bits

    • Broccoli

    • Chili or pulled pork (for loaded potatoes)
