Avocado Sushi Cake

Posted on April 6, 2024April 6, 2024 by admin

Avocado sushi cake is a creative twist on traditional sushi presentation. It’s essentially a layered cake made with sushi rice, avocado, and various other sushi ingredients, arranged in a mold and then unmolded to create a cake-like appearance. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ripe avocados, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1/2 cup imitation crab or cooked crab meat, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • Nori sheets (seaweed), cut into thin strips
  • Soy sauce, for serving
  • Pickled ginger and wasabi, for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the sushi rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt over low heat until the sugar and salt dissolve. Pour the mixture over the cooked rice and gently fold it in to combine. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
  3. Line the bottom of a round cake mold or springform pan with plastic wrap.
  4. Place a layer of sushi rice at the bottom of the mold and press it down firmly using a spoon or spatula to create an even layer.
  5. Arrange a layer of sliced avocado on top of the rice.
  6. Add a layer of julienned cucumber on top of the avocado.
  7. Sprinkle a layer of shredded crab meat over the cucumber.
  8. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the mold, finishing with a layer of sushi rice. Press down gently to compact the layers.
  9. Place a plate on top of the mold and flip it over to unmold the sushi cake onto the plate.
  10. Carefully remove the mold and plastic wrap.
  11. Sprinkle black sesame seeds over the top of the sushi cake and garnish with nori strips.
  12. Serve slices of the avocado sushi cake with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.

Feel free to customize the ingredients based on your preferences. You can add other sushi fillings like shrimp, tuna, or salmon, and incorporate different toppings such as tobiko (fish roe) or spicy mayo for added flavor and texture. Enjoy your avocado sushi cake!
