Here’s a classic apple pie recipe for you!

Ingredients

For the Pie Crust:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 to 8 tbsp ice water

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 to 8 apples (a mix of sweet and tart, like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • ¾ cup sugar (adjust based on the sweetness of apples)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Assembly:

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Sugar (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

1. Make the Pie Crust:

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar.
  • Add the diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together.
  • Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

2. Prepare the Apple Filling:

  • Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  • In a large bowl, combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and vanilla. Toss until well coated.

3. Assemble the Pie:

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Roll out one dough disc on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place it in the dish.
  • Fill the crust with the apple mixture, mounding it slightly in the center.
  • Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the filling. Trim excess dough, then crimp edges to seal.
  • Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

4. Bake the Pie:

  • Beat the egg with the milk to create an egg wash and brush it over the crust.
  • Sprinkle sugar on top for added sweetness and texture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. This helps the filling set.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Enjoy your homemade apple pie!
