Delicious Layered Cheese Paratha

Posted on August 12, 2024 by admin
Layered Cheese Paratha is a delightful Indian flatbread stuffed with cheese and layered with ghee or butter. It’s a fusion of traditional paratha with a cheesy twist, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Here’s a simple recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
  • Water (as needed to knead the dough)

For the filling:

  • 1 cup grated cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a mix)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

For layering:

  • Ghee or butter (for layering and cooking)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt.
    • Add oil or ghee and mix it well into the flour.
    • Gradually add water and knead it into a soft, smooth dough.
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Cheese Filling:
    • In a bowl, mix the grated cheese, red chili flakes, oregano, green chilies, coriander leaves, and a pinch of salt.
    • Mix well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  3. Roll the Parathas:
    • Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
    • Take one dough ball and roll it out into a small circle (about 4 inches in diameter).
    • Apply a thin layer of ghee or butter on the surface.
    • Fold it into a semi-circle, apply ghee/butter again, and fold it once more into a triangle.
    • Roll out the folded dough into a larger triangle (about 6-7 inches).
  4. Add the Cheese Filling:
    • Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center of the rolled-out dough.
    • Carefully fold the sides over the filling to enclose it.
  5. Cook the Parathas:
    • Heat a tawa or griddle over medium heat.
    • Place the paratha on the hot tawa and cook until small bubbles start to appear.
    • Flip the paratha and apply ghee or butter on the cooked side.
    • Flip again, applying ghee or butter on the other side as well, and cook until both sides are golden brown and crispy.
    • Ensure that the cheese inside is melted.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or any chutney of your choice.

Enjoy your delicious Layered Cheese Paratha!
