Here’s a simple and delicious wonton recipe for you to try:

Ingredients:

Wonton Wrappers:

  • 1 package of wonton wrappers (available at most grocery stores)

Filling:

  • 1/2 lb ground pork (or chicken, shrimp, or tofu)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 egg (for sealing the wrappers)

For Cooking:

  • 4 cups chicken broth (if making wonton soup)
  • Water (for boiling wontons)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying, if making fried wontons)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Chopped green onions
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Chili oil or soy sauce for dipping

Instructions:

Preparing the Filling:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Assembling the Wontons:

  1. Lay a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface.
  2. Place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of the wrapper.
  3. Lightly beat the egg and use it to brush the edges of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal.
  5. Bring the two bottom corners of the triangle together and press to seal, forming the traditional wonton shape.
  6. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Cooking Methods:

For Wonton Soup:

  1. Bring the chicken broth to a boil in a large pot.
  2. Carefully add the wontons to the boiling broth.
  3. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the top and are fully cooked.
  4. Serve the wonton soup hot, garnished with chopped green onions and cilantro.

For Fried Wontons:

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry the wontons in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve the fried wontons hot with chili oil or soy sauce for dipping.

Enjoy your homemade wontons!
