Apple Cake

Here’s a classic apple cake recipe that’s sure to delight:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups peeled, cored, and chopped apples (about 3 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in Apples and Nuts: Fold in the chopped apples and nuts (if using).
  7. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack. If using a springform pan, remove the sides before serving.
  9. Serve: Serve the cake warm or at room temperature. Optionally, you can dust the top with powdered sugar or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
