Brisket Tacos

Brisket Tacos Recipe

Ingredients

For the Brisket:

  • 3-4 lbs beef brisket
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Tacos:

  • Corn or flour tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Diced onions
  • Sliced avocado
  • Lime wedges
  • Your favorite salsa or hot sauce
  • Crumbled queso fresco (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Brisket:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large, oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the brisket generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Sear the brisket in the pot for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until it develops a nice brown crust. Remove the brisket and set aside.

2. Cook the Aromatics:

  1. In the same pot, add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

3. Braise the Brisket:

  1. Add the beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  2. Return the brisket to the pot, ensuring it’s covered with the sauce.
  3. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.
  4. Braise the brisket in the oven for 3-4 hours, or until it is fork-tender.

4. Shred the Brisket:

  1. Remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for a few minutes.
  2. Using two forks, shred the brisket into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Return the shredded brisket to the pot and mix it with the remaining sauce.

5. Assemble the Tacos:

  1. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat, or wrap them in foil and heat them in the oven.
  2. Fill each tortilla with a generous portion of the shredded brisket.
  3. Top with fresh cilantro, diced onions, sliced avocado, and crumbled queso fresco (if using).
  4. Serve with lime wedges and your favorite salsa or hot sauce on the side.
