Oven Fried Chicken Recipe

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for oven-fried chicken:

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken thighs and 4 drumsticks (skin-on, bone-in)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
    • In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce.
    • Add the chicken pieces to the bowl, ensuring they are well-coated.
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  2. Prepare the Coating:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • In a large, shallow dish, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, black pepper, and baking powder.
  3. Coat the Chicken:
    • Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing any excess to drip off.
    • Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, pressing to adhere the coating well.
  4. Prepare the Baking Sheet:
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
    • Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet to ensure even cooking.
    • Arrange the coated chicken pieces on the wire rack.
    • Lightly brush the chicken with melted butter or spray generously with cooking spray.
  5. Bake the Chicken:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
    • For extra crispiness, turn on the broiler for the last 2-3 minutes of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
    • Serve hot with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or a fresh salad.
