Chocolate Flan Cake

Chocolate Flan Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Cake Layer:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

For the Flan Layer:

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Caramel:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease a Bundt cake pan generously with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Make the Caramel:
    • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water.
    • Cook, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden brown (caramel) color.
    • Quickly pour the caramel into the prepared Bundt pan, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil.
    • Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
    • Pour the cake batter over the caramel in the Bundt pan.
  4. Prepare the Flan Mixture:
    • In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
    • Blend until smooth.
    • Carefully pour the flan mixture over the cake batter in the Bundt pan. The flan mixture will sink to the bottom.
  5. Bake the Cake:
    • Cover the Bundt pan with aluminum foil.
    • Place the Bundt pan in a large roasting pan. Add about 1 inch of hot water to the roasting pan to create a water bath.
    • Carefully place the roasting pan in the oven.
    • Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Unmold:
    • Remove the Bundt pan from the water bath and allow the cake to cool to room temperature.
    • Refrigerate the cake in the pan for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
    • To unmold, carefully run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the cake.
    • Invert the cake onto a serving plate. The caramel sauce will flow over the cake.
  7. Serve:
    • Slice and serve the Chocolate Flan Cake chilled. Enjoy!

This cake, also known as “Chocoflan” or “Impossible Cake,” is a delightful dessert that features a rich chocolate cake layer topped with a creamy flan and a luscious caramel sauce. The layers magically switch during baking, creating a stunning and delicious treat.
