Ingredients:

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (any variety you prefer)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or sesame oil)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for some heat
  • Optional: sesame seeds or chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Blanch Broccoli:
    • Bring a pot of water to a boil.
    • Add a pinch of salt and the broccoli florets.
    • Cook for 2-3 minutes until the broccoli is bright green but still crisp.
    • Drain and immediately transfer the broccoli to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and vegetable broth (or water). Set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic and Mushrooms:
    • Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes until they start to brown.
  4. Add Broccoli:
    • Add the blanched broccoli to the skillet and toss everything together. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the Sauce:
    • Pour the prepared sauce over the vegetables and stir to coat evenly.
    • Allow the sauce to thicken, stirring occasionally. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Season and Garnish:
    • Taste the dish and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
    • If you like a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes to your liking.
    • Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions for added flavor and presentation.
  7. Serve:
    • Once the sauce has thickened and the broccoli is tender but still crisp, remove from heat.
    • Serve the Broccoli with Mushrooms in Garlic Sauce over steamed rice or noodles.
