APPLE BROWN BETTY RECIPE

Posted on February 3, 2024 by admin

Certainly! Here’s a classic recipe for Apple Brown Betty:

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups thinly sliced and peeled apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups fresh breadcrumbs (from about 4 slices of bread)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Sprinkle this mixture over the sliced apples and toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  4. In another bowl, mix the melted butter with the breadcrumbs until well combined.
  5. Grease a baking dish (about 9×13 inches) and spread half of the breadcrumb mixture on the bottom.
  6. Layer half of the coated apples over the breadcrumbs in the baking dish.
  7. Add the remaining breadcrumb mixture over the apples.
  8. Top with the remaining apples, spreading them evenly.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  11. Allow the Apple Brown Betty to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, and if desired, top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Enjoy your delicious Apple Brown Betty!
