Here’s a delicious recipe for a Glazed Apple Slab Pie—perfect for feeding a crowd or satisfying a serious apple pie craving.


🥧 Glazed Apple Slab Pie

🍏 Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

(Or use 2 sheets of store-bought refrigerated pie crust or puff pastry for a shortcut.)

For the filling:

  • 6–7 cups apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced thin

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Pinch of salt

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1–2 tbsp milk or cream

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract


🧑‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the crust (or prep store-bought):

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and sugar.

  • Cut in butter using a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Slowly add ice water, mixing just until dough comes together.

  • Divide dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.

2. Prepare the filling:

  • In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt.

  • Toss until apples are well coated.

3. Assemble the slab pie:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Roll out one dough disc to fit a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet (aka jelly roll pan).

  • Transfer to the pan, pressing gently into corners.

  • Spread apple filling evenly over crust.

  • Roll out second dough disc and place over apples. Crimp edges to seal. Cut slits in top for steam to escape.

  • Optional: Brush top with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

4. Bake:

  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

  • Let cool at least 30 minutes.

5. Glaze:

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

  • Drizzle over cooled pie.
