Fried Donuts

Here’s a simple Fried Donuts recipe—soft, fluffy, and golden with a sweet sugar coating.


Fried Donuts Recipe

Ingredients (Makes ~12 donuts)

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 large egg

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

  • Sugar or cinnamon sugar for coating


Instructions

  1. Make the dough

    • In a large bowl, whisk warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5–10 min until foamy.

    • Add egg, butter, and salt; mix well.

    • Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  2. Knead & rise

    • Knead dough for 6–8 min until smooth and elastic (by hand or mixer).

    • Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–2 hours until doubled.

  3. Shape the donuts

    • Punch down dough. Roll out to ½-inch thick.

    • Cut with a donut cutter (or round cutter + smaller cutter for center).

    • Place on parchment, cover lightly, and let rise 30–45 min until puffy.

  4. Fry

    • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

    • Fry 2–3 donuts at a time, 1 min per side, until golden.

    • Drain on paper towels.

  5. Coat

    • Roll warm donuts in sugar or cinnamon sugar.

    • Serve fresh and fluffy!
