🌶️ Green Chile Cheese with Garlic Butter Pull-Apart Loaves

Ingredients

For the dough (or use store-bought pizza dough or biscuit dough):

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F)

  • ¼ cup warm milk

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the filling:

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack or mozzarella

  • 1 (4 oz) can diced green chiles, drained

  • 1 tsp cumin (optional, for flavor)

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)

For the garlic butter:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped

  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough (if homemade):
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm water, milk, and olive oil. Mix until combined, then knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  2. Prepare Garlic Butter:
In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic, salt, and parsley/cilantro. Set aside.

  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan (or use a bundt pan for a ring-style pull-apart).

  4. Assemble the Loaf:

    • Roll out dough into a large rectangle (about ¼-inch thick).

    • Brush with garlic butter.

    • Sprinkle evenly with cheeses, green chiles, cumin, and paprika.

    • Cut dough into strips, then cut into squares (about 3×3 inches).

    • Stack squares and place vertically into the pan like a deck of cards.

  5. Final Rise:
Cover and let rise 20–30 minutes until slightly puffy.

  6. Bake:
Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbling.

  7. Finish & Serve:
Let cool 5 minutes. Brush with extra garlic butter if desired. Serve warm — pull apart and enjoy!
