Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins

Here’s a classic and delicious Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins recipe — they taste just like old-fashioned cake donuts but are baked instead of fried!


🍩 Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins

Ingredients

For the Muffins:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (light or dark)

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, but adds donut flavor)

For the Topping:

  • 1/4 cup (half stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon


Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners.

  2. Make the Muffin Batter:

    • In a large bowl, cream together butter and both sugars until light and fluffy.

    • Beat in the egg, then mix in milk and vanilla until smooth.

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir just until combined — do not overmix.

  3. Bake:

    • Spoon the batter evenly into the muffin tin, filling each cup about 2/3 full.

    • Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

    • Let muffins cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

  4. Cinnamon Sugar Topping:

    • Mix cinnamon and sugar together in a shallow bowl.

    • Dip each muffin top into the melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar to coat.
