WHITE TEXAS SHEET CAKE

Posted on February 7, 2025 by admin

White Texas Sheet Cake is a delicious, moist, and rich cake that’s perfect for gatherings and celebrations. It’s similar to the traditional Texas Sheet Cake but uses a lighter flavor profile with vanilla instead of chocolate. Here’s a simple recipe for making a White Texas Sheet Cake:

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, usually pecans)

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Melt the butter: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the buttermilk and bring to a simmer, then remove from heat.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the melted butter mixture into the dry ingredients and stir to combine.
  5. Add eggs and extracts: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and vanilla (and almond extract, if using). Add this to the batter and stir until fully combined.
  6. Pour into pan: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool slightly while you prepare the frosting.

For the Frosting:

  1. Melt the butter: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the milk and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat.
  2. Add powdered sugar: Slowly whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth and well-combined.
  3. Add vanilla and salt: Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  4. Frost the cake: Once the cake is slightly cooled, spread the frosting over the warm cake.
  5. Add nuts (optional): If you’re using nuts, sprinkle them on top of the frosting.

Let the cake cool completely before serving, and enjoy the light, fluffy texture and rich, buttery flavor!
