Hillbilly Pie

Hillbilly Pie RecipeHillbilly Pie is a simple, comforting dessert made with a combination of sweet and savory flavors. It’s a rustic, easy-to-make pie that typically uses ingredients like sugar, eggs, butter, and nuts.

Here’s a classic version of the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade if you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Pie Crust: If using a store-bought pie crust, place it in your pie pan and set it aside. If you’re making your own crust, prepare it and place it in the pie dish.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the flour and salt to the mixture and stir to combine. The batter should be thick but spreadable.
  5. Add Pecans and Milk: Fold in the chopped pecans and slowly add the buttermilk (or regular milk) into the batter. The mixture should become thinner and slightly pourable.
  6. Pour Into the Crust: Pour the pie filling into your prepared pie crust.
  7. Bake the Pie: Bake the pie at 350°F for 40-45 minutes, or until the filling is set and golden brown on top. You may need to cover the edges of the crust with aluminum foil if it starts to brown too quickly.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the pie cool to room temperature before slicing. Optionally, sprinkle with a little brown sugar for added sweetness and texture before serving.

Enjoy your warm, rustic Hillbilly Pie! It pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
