Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for a Mexican restaurant-style salad dressing that you can make at home!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or regular milk
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar or lime juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional for smoky flavor)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1-2 tbsp fresh cilantro (optional, finely chopped)

Instructions:

  1. Combine the Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, buttermilk (or milk), vinegar (or lime juice), and olive oil.
  2. Season: Add the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir everything until it’s well combined.
  3. Taste and Adjust: Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, or lime juice if needed.
  4. Optional Cilantro: Stir in fresh cilantro for an extra burst of flavor, if desired.
  5. Chill: For the best flavor, let the dressing chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • If you prefer a thicker dressing, you can add more mayonnaise or reduce the amount of milk.
  • To make it spicier, increase the cayenne pepper or add a dash of hot sauce.
  • This dressing pairs perfectly with taco salads, grilled chicken salads, or as a dip for chips.
